WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo visited Tunisia on 29 and 30 November to hold meetings with Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, Minister of Trade Zied Ladhari and Minister of Foreign Affairs Khemaies Jhinaoui. As part of his visit, he also participated in the “Tunisia 2020 conference”, where he discussed the role of trade and the WTO in helping Tunisia’s economic development.
During the Conference, he stated that:
…Research has found that one dollar invested in Aid for Trade results in nearly 8 dollars of exports from developing countries. In addition, we also have a range of programmes to help enhance knowledge and understanding of the trading system. This includes the WTO Chairs Programme, of which the Tunis Business School is part.
